Diverse cloud deployments causing data management challenges, finds Nutanix study
The latest Enterprise Cloud Index (ECI) from Nutanix shows that IT infrastructure worldwide is growing increasingly diverse, which is leading to challenges in data management and transparency.
Currently, 60% of participants in the survey use a mixed infrastructure, including public, private, hybrid multi-cloud, and hosted solutions. This number is expected to grow to 74% in the near future.
With this in mind, nearly all (94%) of respondents believe they would benefit from a single solution to manage data and applications across diverse computing environments.
Ho Chye Soon, Singapore Country Manager for Nutanix, said: “As the amounts of applications and data generated continue to grow, many face challenges in the management across their various IT infrastructure – from the edge to core to cloud.”
Nutanix found that only 40% of respondents in the ECI report having complete visibility into where their data resides, while 94% agree that having full visibility is important.
“As a result, we are seeing an increasing demand from our customers in Singapore and the region for a cloud operating platform that can unify, govern, and manage processes across the different clouds and applications to enable greater efficiency, enhance productivity, and streamline workflows and resources,” added Ho Chye Soon.
Controlling Cloud Costs a Growing Concern
The great majority of respondents (84%) see cloud cost control as a challenge, with 34% rating this a ‘significant’ challenge. Application migration across different cloud environments was selected as a contributing issue to cloud costs and complexity.
An interesting note is that nearly half of all respondents (46%) expect to move some applications or data back into on-premise environments specifically as a cost-cutting measure. This is becoming a point of discussion for CTOs on a global level who are growing more concerned with the difficulty of managing costs across various cloud infrastructures.
Sustainability Gains Importance in IT
Sustainability is a priority for IT, with 92% of organisations surveyed stating that sustainability is more important to their business this year than last year. This change is driven by three key factors: supply chain disruptions, ESG initiatives, and customer awareness.
